Northumberland

Northumberland is a county in the North East of England. The non-metropolitan county of Northumberland borders Cumbria to the west, County Durham to the south and Tyne and Wear to the south east, as well as having a border with the Scottish Borders council area to the north, and nearly eighty miles of North Sea coastline.
Northumberland is one of the largest counties in England. It has a total land area of almost 2,000 square miles but a population of only 300,000 people. With only 157 people per square mile, it is by far the least densely populated county in England.

Currently, local government in the county is organised on a two-tier basis, in which two types of council, a county council and a district or borough council, provide the council services you receive. Across Northumberland there is one county council and six district or borough councils.
